It used to be the US.
But the more Chinese learn about it, the less admiring they become. Many Chinese have an image of the US as it was in the 1950’s when we were truly the most advanced and richest country in the world.
So when they learn the reality of the 2010’s US, many became disillusioned. My parents have been hosting many Chinese foreign students . I remember one graduate student who couldn't believe what he had seen in the many decaying towns in the Rust Belt. That trip really broke the image of the US he had in his mind.

I would say it depends on who you talk to. Yes, some people admire Russia. But they are a very small minority. The reality is that China needs to get along with Russia. And vice versa. Having an amicable relationship with a neighbor that shares such a long mutual border benefits both countries.
I would argue that there are more Chinese who admire the USA. Except for the troubles going on now under the Trump administration.

We admire the openness and the spirit of innovation of the U.S.
We admire the engineering spirit to make the best products of Japan and Germany.
We admire the ability to gain commercial success of the Jewish people.
We admire the science achievements by all the great western talents.
We admire the battle spirit of Russia.
We admire lots of nature talents from the countries all over the world.
We are proud of our own culture and civilization history, and we sorrow our centuries of humiliation. We have recognized our weaknesses and we have been improving accordingly, we learn from other countries and walk our own way. Climbing to the top in the world village is a nature result of lifting billions of people out of poverty and having a decent modern life. We are willing to take the responsibility to the world based on our strength. We agree that the first step to solve any problem is to recognize there is one, so we admire the better capabilities of other countries to help us develop.

People my age have gone from the Cultural Revolution of manual labour in the fields to the most advanced modern civilisation in the world in about half a lifetime.

But industrialization and education has ensured mobility among its citizens. India’s failure has been its stratified education system, and the fact that 30% of its people still remain illiterate. There can be no mobility with such a large unlettered group. Furthermore, the urban westernized education in the English medium has created a class far worse than than any caste disparity. That is India’s failure and China’s success. India could never capitalize on its English language skills inherited from the British raj. India’s early leaders were stuck on socialism and an anti West ideology which made India miss the bus. By the time China woke, India had gone to sleep. Its populace has now embraced a culture of whining, and complaining rather than the pursuit of excellence. India’s vote bank policies also prevents any breakthroughs. Indians tend to see every foreign business, as exploiters and profiteers. The concept of benefitting from a superior technology and providing employment does not exist in India at all. This is one reason, Indian entrepreneurs are unbeatable when out of India, but are utter failures inside of it.

I admire China for its ‘practical socialism’. The Soviet-era Russians could have learned so much from your ‘no dogma’ approach. I believe there are serious issues arising in Western countries with the old and failed ‘soviet-dogma’ approach to socialism - not least in the USA (and here in Ireland unfortunately). We will live in interesting times ahead indeed!

This exemplifies what I think makes the people of China so special. IMHO, I think the Chinese tendency to always look toward the collective good - and to strive to move selflessly towards those ends - is what raises the people of China above most Western nationalities.
The humility, the willingness to follow a superior example without judgement or resistance; this is the gentle way of adapting to circumstances as taught in Chinese philosophy.
In terms of their national policies, I think if you're even a casual observer of world affairs and national relations, you have to acknowledge the sheer brilliance and intellectual audacity of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese lead in 5G technology; they quickly coordinated an end-game response to Covid and have already largely recovered economically, while we in America are warring between ourselves about whether or not to wear masks. Human rights issues notwithstanding, I personally can imagine a world that is led by China both economically and doctrinally. Not through any type of military takeover, just through the gradual evolutionary effect of consistently adapting to changing social and economic global issues better than everyone else playing on the global stage.

This is well known as a peaceful fleet in Asia and Africa countries. It has been written down in history books of coastal cities and nations from Africa Arabia, India, Indochina and South East Asian nations. Chinese culture preach peace and harmony, between human societies and with nature. Peace is cherished in the East. Every Eastern religion teach their followers to be kind to others. Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Hindi, Catholic, lslam founders advocate kindness and peace. Unfortunately political leaders deviate from original intention of religion, use religion as a tool to for self interest to displace others and start war causing misery to millions for ages creating conflicts of different believes instead of tolerate differences. Now a days the self acclaimed so call international police is killing innocent civilians, robbing other nations riches. Hypocrisy cannot be covered forever. It cannot stand the trial of time and history. Oned ay hypocrisy is exposed and discredited by the rest of the world. This is being reflected in the UN assembly votes. Bullies cannot not accepted by the world nations. The world in waking up. We are going to see changes for a better and more balanced world.

This is well known as a peaceful fleet in Asia and Africa countries. It has been written down in history books of coastal cities and nations from Africa Arabia, India, Indochina and South East Asian nations. Chinese culture preach peace and harmony, between human societies and with nature. Peace is cherished in the East. Every Eastern religion teach their followers to be kind to others. Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Hindi, Catholic, lslam founders advocate kindness and peace. Unfortunately political leaders deviate from original intention of religion, use religion as a tool to for self interest to displace others and start war causing misery to millions for ages creating conflicts of different believes instead of tolerate differences. Now a days the self acclaimed so call international police is killing innocent civilians, robbing other nations riches. Hypocrisy cannot be covered forever. It cannot stand the trial of time and history. Oned ay hypocrisy is exposed and discredited by the rest of the world. This is being reflected in the UN assembly votes. Bullies cannot not accepted by the world nations. The world in waking up. We are going to see changes for a better and more balanced world.

Most Chinese travelers back in the days had great admiration for Hindus. When Tagore established his Vishwa Bharati university, one of his first dedications was the department for Chinese studies-the Cheena bhavan.

I cannot think why you would respect the US. I've not met any Chinese who think good of America. The Jews didn't rightfully gain commercial success, they intentionally caused the great depression with pump and dump schemes to turn people poor so they could buy it all.

Thank you for your nice response. As an American, I am accustomed to other countries' looking down their noses at us because of all of our problems. It is nice to receive a compliment! And I admire the Chinese people for their strengths. You are a very humble people. Many are quite talented and smart, but I never hear a Chinese person brag about their accomplishments. I also appreciate their love and reverence for academic studies. They know how to apply themselves diligently and learn from others as well as from books. And finally, the Chinese cuisine (along with the French cuisine) are the foundations of the best and most influential cuisines of the world.
